excellent article, all attending should read and prayerfully consider before attending. Made me think back to a hornets nest I got into when we tried to implement his thoughts several years ago. That is when my eyes were opened to just how prevalent the "church member" theology is in the church today. It really hurts.

Hey Spencer, as one who was formerly under your pastoral care I can assure you that God has produced fruit in the lives of those you have served as pastor. We are ever thankful of your faithfulness to preaching and teaching God's word. As a gospel minister myself, I have also felt the pressures and disappointments that can accompany ministry. May God be gracious to you and your family. May He strengthen you and keep you faithful to his calling and may He move among your people to stir them to love the things of God and the people of God, especially you, His servant. We love you dearly and miss you and your family terribly.

Hey, Spencer!

I read your most recent blog and I hope you know how much I and I know many others are truly appreciative for the blessing that is you. My favorite part of worship each Sunday is the message you deliver. Probably just in equal measures, sorta like the night before Christmas when I was kid or like with Ben awaiting the kick-off of a Clemson game, the anticipation of what you will say due to the powerful teachings you've displayed in past sermons always makes me hunch over with my elbows resting on my legs b/c I don't want to miss one single word that is spoken.

I don't pray everyday, but please know you and yours are in my continued prayers.

"For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of His glory He may grant you to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your heart through faith - that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen." - Ephesians 3:14-21

Yes it is. (Been there, done that - as a preacher's kid- and hated every minute of it) And for you it has to be an even more difficult mental balance, as you are also fighting the depression that comes with sugar swings. All I can say is stay on your knees as much as possible. What is impossible with man is possible with God. That has to be your most important priority - over emails, over blogging, over studying, over meetings, over everything. And we will stay on our knees with you and for you. Do not let the "job" of pastoring hold sway over the "calling".

I do pray for you regularly (I'm ashamed to admit that it's not every day -aren't we all a little self-centered, even in our prayers!) - but will definitely add this specific issue to my prayers for you. God has graciously given OHBC a treasure in you - Thank you for your faithfulness, even during these hard times!

I pray for you every day and will continue to do so Pastor. I know you have suffered with this affliction for some time. We have seen some good healing miracles in your family of late. I believe God will heal you.....but if not, we will still praise the Lord.

Prof. Haygood,

I want to let you know that I will be praying for you. Thank you so much for giving up of your time to teach the word of God to me while I was a student with BPC. You always challenged me and set before me a high standard which caused me to be a better minister, preacher and most of all a better Christian. My prayers will be lifted up for you.
